I'm not going to attempt to make any sweeping analysis of a whole generation - but.....it is a fact that those born from the mid 1990ies onwards have grown up in a world where going online for information, or to shop, research, play games, send messages, upload photos, socialise etc is just how things are done. This generation has never been without a mobile device and as an employer this is most definitely something to be mindful of - not being able to apply for jobs via their phone will have an impact.
Gen Z has never experienced a time when YouTube didn't exist either and video is important to them. But beware - growing up with loads of online video content, they are not going to be impressed just because you have company video which was done 4 years ago, it has to be experiential, relevant and rewarding. Gen Z are entering the labour market now, are you ready?
For Gen Z, media consumption is more than just entertainment—it’s part of their daily routine, from start to finish. According to eMarketer, Gen Z’s time on publisher sites show more time and engagement with video than text. 57 percent of 13- to-17-year-olds said they’re watching more short-form video than they did a year ago. Just 45 percent of millennials—defined here as 18- to-34-year-olds—said the same.
