1 in 7 jobs could disappear as a result of automation. An astounding fact or a reality? Interesting debate at this week's CIPD Festival of Work.
Is it really a case of machines replacing people like for like, I don't believe it is. New technologies appear constantly that are there to support our work and ultimately make our lives easier therefore it is more about people working with technology not being replaced by it.
I believe a changing workplace environment can never be a bad thing new technologies can create better and more interesting jobs for today and the future. A recent study said that 2/3 of primary school children will end up in jobs that don't exist yet. Having a child of primary school age myself I don't see that as a negative in fact more as an exciting prospect!
“Across the UK people are already using technology to create better and more productive jobs. As technology brings us from repetitive and dangerous tasks it is helping us rediscover and revalue what makes us human – things like creativity, decision-making and emotional intelligence''
