In this short yet insightful TED Talk Roselinde Torres in 9 minutes gives us some great insights into the 3 most important questions you should be considering when finding your next great leaders.

After surveying 4000 companies she found that 58% of companies are not preparing their future leaders for leadership; effectively it's then down to sink or swim. The potential 'damage' to that individual in failed practice could mean that the person will be carrying that 'failure' for many years to come. Incompetent leaders also impact on whole organisation effectiveness and therefore de-stabilise success.

In the 21st Century we are working in a more global environment, with a fast flow of information and innovation which relies on a matrix to get things done. Leaders who hang onto old practices which got them to where they are could be missing a big trick.

Here are 3 important questions to ask when looking for great leaders for the 21st Century;

  1. Where are you looking to anticipate the next change? Great leaders don't look down they see around corners!
  2. What is the diversity measure in your personal and professional network? Great leaders understand the importance of diversity in their network and have the capacity to grow relationships with people very different to themselves!
  3. Are you courageous enough to abandon a practice that has made you successful in the past? Great leaders dare to be different they don't go along to get along.

How are you developing leaders effective for the future?
