There are 122,446 advertised vacancies currently available for IT-related roles - 10% more than this time last year, representing the highest online job ad count since the start of 2020.
In fact, IT-related vacancies now account for 1 in 7 UK job openings with Fintech, Foodtech & Healthtech industries fuelling the UK’s comeback.
The race for talent starts early, with analysis of one million job ads showing that six of the ten university degrees that recruiters were looking for related specifically to computing and IT.
What's more, figures from the Learning & Work Institute highlight a worsening skills crisis the number of young people taking IT subjects at GCSE has fallen by 40% since 2015.
So where’s the growth coming from?
Programming and Developer jobs lead the way, with 60,000 roles currently vacant.
The top 100 startups & scaleups have seen a 68% increase in job vacancies since April ‘20 and 3,298 advertised vacancies available in Feb ’21, up from 1,964 in Apr ‘20.
Ruby developers are also in huge demand with a 700% increase, followed by Java specialists (+300%).
London and the South East continue to lead with the highest proportion of vacancies however other regions appear to be emerging with large rises in vacancies since 2020 including the North East (100%), West Midlands (57%) and the North West (55%).
